Four routes exist and they differ wildly on speed and cost. One is free and waives the monthly fee; another charges $4.95 a go. Here's what each involves and why a reload gets refused.

The short version
A salary, benefit or pension paid straight in. Free, and the only method that waives the monthly fee. Setup needs the routing and account numbers from the account dashboard, given to the payer. First payment takes a pay cycle to land.
Generate a barcode in the account, take it and cash to a participating retailer, and the load lands within minutes. Costs $4.95 each time. There's a per-transaction ceiling and a monthly one.
Pull money from a linked bank account. Free on the Netspend side, but the bank may charge, and it takes one to three business days. The bank account must be in the same name as the card.
Load from a debit card. Fast, but usually carries a percentage fee rather than a flat one, which makes it the worst value on larger amounts.
| Method | Cost | Speed |
|---|---|---|
| Direct deposit | $0, waives monthly fee | One pay cycle |
| Retail cash | $4.95 | Minutes |
| Bank transfer | $0 here, bank may charge | 1–3 days |
| Card-to-card | Percentage fee | Instant |

If the card will take regular income, set up direct deposit and never pay to load again — it's free and it removes the monthly fee at the same time. That's the only method that pays for itself.
For one-off top-ups, retail cash is the pragmatic choice despite the $4.95: it's instant and needs no linked bank account. Card-to-card only makes sense for small urgent amounts, where the percentage fee stays trivial.
Bank transfer sits in the middle and rarely wins. It's free but slow, and if you already have a linked bank account you're better off with direct deposit.
Almost never fraud. The usual causes:
Check the flag first. If the account is partially verified, no reload will work until the document clears, and retrying just burns time.
Flagged account? The verification guide covers how to clear it. Reloads come back on their own once it does.
Ceilings depend on the account tier and how far verification got. A partially verified account sits at the low ceiling — often low enough that a single wage won't fit — and a fully verified one moves up.
Limits reset monthly rather than per pay cycle, so a refused reload late in the month is usually the ceiling rather than the card. Check the remaining allowance in the account before trying again.
Usually a limit ceiling, a Needs Attention flag, or a funding source in the wrong name. Check the flag first.
Yes, and it waives the monthly fee too. It's the only method that saves money rather than costing it.
Depends on tier and verification level. Partially verified accounts sit at the low ceiling.
Yes, via retail cash with the barcode. Bank transfers need the account in your name.
